Nimona (2023 US) A delayed entry into Fantasy June. A smart ass shape shifter befriends a Knight accused of murdering the queen. This is a brand new release on Netflix and its getting lots of positive buzz. Based on the graphic novel of the same name by ND Stevenson. On Friday’s post I spoke about depicting female anger in film and that you don’t see it often. So I’m happy when I do see it. So Kudos to the studios. Speaking of studios. This was originally supposed to be produced by BlueSky studios. The film got a lot of pushback from the parent Co. Disney because of the LGBTQ themes in it. Eventually, the film was scrapped when Disney shut down the entire studio. It took a bit but it found a new life at Annapamu Studios and here we are. This film is sword and sorcery fantasy at it’s core but it has elements of high tech in it which is just fun. I really liked this and the allegory was very well done not to mention the mixing of magic and tech. Find it on Netflix
