Secret of Roan Inish (1994 US IE) We go from the Scottish Highlands to the shores of Ireland in this charming fantasy about Selkies. A girl searches for her missing brother only to find he is a child of the sea. To be fair Roan Inish has far fewer sword fights than Highlander. I really enjoyed this one. It is a very sweet film about love. Love in marriage, love for family, love for the environment. I enjoyed the cinematography of the Irish coast. Parts were actually filmed in Scotland. It’s kind of hard to tell. The main actress did an amazing job. Apparently, producers tested over a 1000 applicants to find the perfect actress. You can find more about the myth of Selkies in the animated film “Song of the Sea”. Which is just as lovely as Secret of Roan Inish. Find The Secret of Roan Inish on Peacock. I’m only seeing the Song of the Sea for rent on most streaming.
